Welcome to Penhill Farm, the perfect location for your film and photo shoots. Our picturesque landscapes and versatile settings provide an ideal backdrop for a variety of productions. We are committed to ensuring a smooth and professional experience for all our clients. Penhill Farm will gladly sign and comply with your Non-Disclosure Agreement to guarantee the secrecy of your project.
Penhill Farm welcomes production companies, advertising agencies, photographers and videoographers to utilise our beautiful venue for professional shoots.
Our resident guests and patrons are our utmost priority and as such we safeguard our clients from unnecessary interruptions and inconvenience.
Professional shoots are possible at Penhill Farm subject to availability at a booking fee.
If Penhill Farm is hosting your wedding or if the bridal party is staying at Penhill, you can arrange to have a photographer and/or videographer on-site at no extra cost. Accommodation and meals are not included for crew and will be for your own account.

Amateur photography is permitted for residents only using personal phones and cameras.
You’re welcome to shoot wildlife using a professional-grade camera but please be mindful and respectful of other guests.

Please ensure that your activities align with our guidelines to avoid any misunderstandings.
Penhill Farm grants the Producer permission to use the premises for filming and photography under the following terms and conditions:
• Full payment is required to secure a booking.
• If the Producer terminates the agreement more than 6 (six) weeks before the scheduled start, a cancellation fee of 25% of the location fee (plus VAT) is payable.
• If the Producer terminates the agreement more than 1 (one) month before the scheduled start, a cancellation fee of 50% of the location fee (plus VAT) is payable.
• If the Producer terminates the agreement less than 7 (seven) days before the scheduled start, a cancellation fee of 100% of the location fee (plus VAT) is payable.
• Visitors taking photos or videos for personal, non-commercial use do not require a permit.
o Personal Use: Capturing moments for private enjoyment, sharing with friends/family, or posting on personal social media without commercial intent.
o Non-Commercial Use: Content is not used for business purposes, sold, or incorporated into promotional materials.
4. Undertakings by the Producer:
• The Producer agrees to remove all equipment and temporary sets after use and leave the premises in good condition.
• The Producer agrees to not redecorate any locations by means of wallpaper or paint.
• The Producer will exercise care to prevent damage and ensure safety, complying with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, 1993.
• The Producer must maintain adequate third-party liability and damage insurance.
• The Producer is responsible for insuring any equipment or goods brought onto the premises.
• In the event of force majeure, either party may suspend or cancel the activities and terminate the agreement without liability.
• Weather delays do not mean an automatic roll over of the permit to the following day or extension on times. Application must be made to the permit office for a new date.
• All rights to the footage and recordings made on the premises remain the sole property of the Producer.
• The Producer agrees to acknowledge Penhill Farm in the published or broadcast version of the product created with this footage/material.
• The undersigned agree to provide one copy, free of charge, of the finished production or publication in which Penhill Farm has been featured to Penhill Farm for the purposes of education and information only.
• The Producer must comply with all applicable laws and obtain necessary permits and licenses. A production representative on location must be in possession of all relevant public permits, permissions and approved application.
• Penhill Farm is used entirely at your own risk and Penhill Farm shall not be liable for any claims, accidents, injuries, death or loss, etc. arising from such use.
Productions at Penhill Farm must adhere to the following code of conduct:
• Ensure all relevant permits and location agreements are in place.
• Ensure public liability and breakages insurance is in place.
• Ensure location fees are paid, and receipts are available.
• The Art Department must dress the set within working hours and not contact tenant representatives directly.
• Cast and crew must remain within designated areas during breaks.
• Penhill Farm works on a ‘leave it as you found it’ principle. If the farm is not left as you found it, a cleaning fee and furniture organisation will be charged at R1,250.
• Your booked day/s and time slot must include your setup. Eg: If your photoshoot is booked for 2 hours, you need to setup and cleanup within those 2 hours.
• No modifications, movement, damage or picking of rocks, signage, plants, animals or other natural features is permitted, unless prior approval has been granted.
• Breakages and damages will be billed to you on post-shoot inspection.
• Ensure safety and display courtesy to the public.
• Strictly no fires will be permitted unless specified by the permit
• Respect the Environment: Be mindful of the environment and avoid causing any damage to the property.
• Avoid damage to vegetation, fauna, and natural features.
• Do not remove, trim or cut any vegetation or trees on the property, and do not introduce any non-indigenous plants to Penhill Farm.
• Respect the Farm’s Guests: If other guests are present, be mindful of their experience and avoid causing any disruption. Keep noise levels to a minimum and minimize disturbance to the surrounding area.
• Remove all materials, rubbish, and catering waste daily.
• Dispose of waste appropriately and recycle where possible.
• Ensure adequate facilities are available and managed to prevent environmental impact.
• Minimize risk of damage to sites of historical, cultural, and religious importance.
• Do not remove or modify signage without approval.
• Do not block emergency access or create hazards.
• No smoking on set and no alcoholic beverages or illegal substances allowed.
Penhill Farm offers a variety of picturesque and versatile locations for your film and photo shoots. Some of the available filming locations include:
A beautifully restored farmhouse built in 1840, featuring four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sitting room, a traditional farmhouse kitchen, a spacious dining/living room, and a private pool. The house is air-conditioned with Wi-Fi and a TV.
A converted old fruit barn that accommodates four people in two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. It has a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, sitting room with a wood-burning stove, and its own pool with magnificent views of the Riviersonderend Mountains .
A semi-detached double-story cottage with two double bedrooms (one on the first floor and one upstairs), both with en-suite bathrooms. It features a Jacuzzi in the garden and is perfect for small families or groups of friends .
Similar to East Grange, this semi-detached double-story cottage has two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a Jacuzzi in the garden. It is ideal for small families or groups of friends .
The oldest dwelling in the Nuy Valley, built from mud bricks, poplar beams, and thatch. It has been refurbished to accommodate four people in two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The cottage includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, sitting room, and a wood-burning stove .
Expansive vineyards with rows of grapevines, perfect for romantic and picturesque scenes .
A serene dam where guests can enjoy fishing, canoeing, or simply splashing about. It is an ideal location for tranquil and nature-focused scenes .
Nestled at the foot of the majestic Langeberg, South Africa’s longest mountain range, Penhill Farm offers exceptional views across the Breede Valley to the Franschhoek mountains beyond .
Open from Wednesday to Sunday, this restaurant offers a seasonal family sharing menu made with local ingredients from the Robertson Valley. It is a great location for scenes involving dining and social gatherings .

• To review your submission efficiently, please allow 48 to 72 hours for processing.
• You’re welcome to submit your application at any time, but responses will be handled during our permit office hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00.
• To avoid delays, please ensure all details are accurate and the form is completed in full.
• Submission of an application does not guarantee approval. We will review your request and notify you of the outcome.
• Once approved, and you would like to confirm, we’ll issue an invoice.
• Payment can be made via EFT — simply email us the proof of payment.
• Your permit will then be processed and must be kept on-site with your crew for verification by Penhill Farm security if required.
If Application Accepted by Penhill Farm
The following documents must be received by Penhill Farm management no later than 2 (two) weeks prior to shoot:
• Certified copy of Identity Document or Passport for Client, Producer and third-party suppliers entering Penhill Farm
• Proof of Public Liability Insurance
• Breakdown of all actors, film crew, catering crew, emergency crew, helicopter crew, wardrobe, waste and clean-up crew. List if there will be other crew or spectators.
• Emergency Plan
• During the course of our agreement (and confirmed by your permit to shoot), it is agreed that both parties will process one another’s personal information in compliance with the provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. Each party will be accountable to the other in this regard.
• All personal information must be treated as confidential by both parties, and access to such information will be limited to those employees who need it in order to perform their functions under this agreement.
• Such information can only be disclosed to others if required by law or in the course of the proper performance of obligations of this agreement (and then only with the prior written consent of the other party).
• Upon the termination of this agreement (or upon request) each party will return to the other party any record containing, pertaining or relating to the personal information disclosed in accordance with this agreement.
• Alternatively, a party will, upon the instruction of the other party, destroy such material and satisfy that party that it has done so.
• The parties indemnify each other and hold one another harmless against any loss, liability, damage or expense of any nature suffered or incurred by a party (and all costs incurred by it in connection therewith, including legal costs on an attorney and own client scale), which may accrue against or be charged to or be recovered from or sought to be recovered from that party arising from the other party’s breach of its obligations in terms of this agreement and/or the other party’s negligent or intentional conduct in relation to its processing of personal information.
